Sound insulation standards

The one who lives quiet, lives healthier.

YTONG produces remarkable sound insulation and absorption quality. Since its internal structure is comprised of 60%-70% air, AAC absorbs much more sound than conventional concrete and other materials, effectively reducing sound wave transmission.

The thousands of tiny non interconnecting air bubbles captured in each YTONG block structure make them excellent thermal and sound insulators. Furthermore, sound insulation provided is 7dB greater than other building materials of the same weight. This structure also gives the benefit of air tightness and resistance to water ingress. This makes it ideal for construction projects that require a high level of acoustic insulation, such as schools, apartments, hotels, and entertainment facilities.

In more details, YTONG's high surface mass coupled with the mechanical vibration energy damping within its porous structure produces a construction material with exceptional sound insulation properties.

Noise control in buildings is of great significance for the health and well-being of the occupants, especially in multi-family dwellings, since they must provide an environment that is restful and relaxing. The building envelope must also maintain privacy for the occupant. Noise control is also an important factor in other types of buildings such as schools, hospitals, hotels and offices.

YTONG provides a sound insulation value of 7dB greater than other solid building materials of the same weight per surface area. YTONGs high surface mass coupled with the mechanical vibration energy damping within its porous structure produces a construction material with exceptional sound insulation properties.

In addition to using a wall material with superior sound insulation properties, it is always essential to construct the wall in a manner that closes off air leaks and paths by which noise can go around or through the assembly. AAC's simple construction methods and details help to eliminate imperfections, which allow sound transmission through the walls, thus providing a final wall assembly which offers superior sound insulation characteristics for the occupant.

Also, it should be noted that the tests conducted with block wall construction will have the same results as YTONG - reinforced panels. This is due to the fact that the mass of the material is identical.

Sound Absorption

Sound absorption is a major characteristic of the overall sound performance of a wall, floor or roof system. With AAC, sound generated from internal sources such as machinery or equipment can be significantly reduced.

The excellent Noise Reduction Coefficient for YTONG surfaces provides great sound absorption without any additional measures. The massive aerated concrete exterior walls offer substandard sound insulation. In a 300-mm-thick concrete wall pores are capable of providing the better for the thermal quality (PP2 / 0,4) 41dB, for the better supporting quality (PP4 / 0.6) 46 dB.

The sound protection, for example, between loud and quiet spaces, such as children's rooms and bedrooms, should be at least 40 dB. That is a normal, 125 mm thick wall with YTONG Blocks.
